The world has just had its first glimpse of Michael, the long-awaited biopic about pop legend Michael Jackson and the early buzz is electric. The newly released trailer offers a striking portrayal of the superstar, with Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson stepping into the glittering glove of his famous uncle.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Emancipation), the film promises a sweeping exploration of Jackson’s extraordinary life — from his childhood stardom in the Jackson 5 to the global dominance of his solo career. The trailer teases iconic moments every fan will recognize: the moonwalk, the Thriller red jacket, and the pulsating energy of the stage that made Jackson a worldwide phenomenon.
Jaafar’s resemblance to his uncle has already stunned fans online, and insiders say his dedication to capturing Michael’s essence is uncanny. “He’s channeling him not imitating him,” one crew member shared. The project has reportedly had full access to Jackson’s music catalog, allowing the biopic to include his biggest hits, from “Billie Jean” to “Man in the Mirror.”
Produced by Graham King, who previously brought Freddie Mercury’s story to life in Bohemian Rhapsody, Michaelboasts a heavyweight creative team. The cast includes Colman Domingo as patriarch Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross. The screenplay comes from John Logan, a three-time Oscar nominee known for Gladiator and The Aviator.
Yet, as with everything involving Michael Jackson, the project isn’t without controversy. Some critics have questioned whether a family-approved production can offer a balanced view of the pop icon’s life, including the darker chapters that shadowed his later years. Jackson’s daughter, Paris, has already clarified that she had “no involvement” in the film’s making.
Still, excitement is undeniable. Fans around the world are celebrating the trailer as a nostalgic and emotional return to the magic of MJ. Whether Michael will prove to be a revealing portrait or a reverent tribute remains to be seen but for now, the King of Pop is moonwalking back into the cultural spotlight.
