Skin- problems are quite common these days, but another problem is increasing rapidly around the world: the appearance of a slight beard or mustache on girls’ faces, commonly known as facial hair. Many girls are getting treatment from doctors for this, because it is generally believed that it is caused by hormonal imbalance. However, not only hormonal changes but also changing lifestyle and excessive consumption of fast food contribute to this problem.

Relationship between fast food and hormonal imbalance

According to Russian website Izvestia, fast foods like burgers, French fries and sweets are high in sugar, salt and trans fat, which increases insulin resistance. It disturbs the hormonal balance of the body and increases the level of male hormones in women. This is the reason why hair starts growing on the face of girls. Although fast food does not directly cause hair growth, it promotes weight gain and hormonal imbalance, which leads to unwanted hair growth. These hairs appear around the face, chin or eyebrows, which is called hirsutism in medical language.

When might this problem get worse?

According to the report, when girls start their periods, hormonal changes occur in their body. If girls consume fast food, junk food and fried food during this period, then the risk of facial hair increases significantly. Obesity, insulin resistance and irregular eating habits also contribute to hirsutism. When girls are worried about these unwanted hair, they sometimes shave them, which can make the problem worse. Doctors advise not to use home remedies without consulting a specialist. One reason for this could also be:

“When girls gain weight, their estrogen levels often increase,” says gynecologist Lyubov Yerofeeva, an expert in reproductive health at WHO and a senior lecturer in the medical department of Synergy University. However, sometimes in women, due to a malfunction in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, the level of free testosterone made by the adrenal glands also increases. Free testosterone is normally needed to regulate sexual desire, normal hair growth, and other processes. An increase in its levels can lead to the growth of unwanted hair.

Treatment and Management

This problem can be cured by checking hormonal imbalance and proper treatment. Diet and lifestyle changes are also a major part of treatment. Medicines prescribed by doctors, weight control and a healthy lifestyle can easily improve this condition. Laser treatment can also be an option, but it is very important to avoid home remedies and consult a doctor.
