Drivers on a busy stretch of the M1 have been hit by two miles of traffic and severe delays in a blow to their late-night journeys. National Highways East Midlands said on X that only one lane on the southbound section of the major UK motorway between junction 21A (Leicester) and junction 21 (M69) is currently open.
Footage from motorway cameras shows traffic built up along the impacted area of the M1. National Highways East Midlands wrote on X: "3 lanes of 4 are closed on the #M1 southbound between J21A #Leicester and J21 (#M69) while emergency repairs are carried out to the road surface. There is around 2 miles of congestion on approac,h which is adding about 20 minutes to normal journey times."
