Since turning down a national contract with New Zealand Cricket in September 2022 James Neesham has been a regular presence on the global T20 circuit. He has represented 10 teams across seven competitions in addition to playing 45 T20Is for New Zealand. Currently the New Zealand star is a T20 freelancer and if we talk about the nature of the freelancers schedule staying match-ready whenever the call comes can be challenging. Maintaining fitness is a priority but Neesham remains realistic about what is within his control. Looking back Neesham feels he has achieved what he set out to do when he gave up his national contract freeing up his New Zealand summer to play around the world. Of the 115 matches he has played in this period 27 have been for the Pretoria Capitals and Dubai Capitals both owned by the GMR group.
