However, certain details can only be verified once you've submitted an offer and obtained crucial documentation, including floor plans or land registry records. For one couple, an extraordinary discovery awaited them only after they'd settled into their new home and begun renovations. In a TikTok clip, the pair revealed they'd recently relocated to a 1930s-built property.

The house featured drywall that they were keen to remove in order to reveal the original brickwork beneath, but as they started stripping it away, they stumbled upon something remarkable.

The duo, who go by Goldenberry on social media, uncovered a door they insist "no one knew existed". They maintained the door hadn't been disclosed during the purchase process, and they're convinced even the former owner was unaware of its presence.

Despite being certain the door must be "haunted", they chose to open it regardless, and were stunned by what lay behind it.

A follow-up video captures the moment the couple finally managed to prise the door open, after considerable effort as it had been jammed shut following decades of disuse and lacked a handle. Behind the door, though, wasn't the spine-chilling haunted chamber they'd braced themselves for.

Instead, the pair stumbled upon an additional bathroom that had been shut away for years.

In the caption, they explained: "Everyone expecting a haunted room ... it's a bathroom, besties. We were scared s******s - and honestly shocked to find a whole second bathroom back there, because the previous owners literally plastered over the old door. So no, the house isn't haunted ... just cursed with questionable carpentry."

The duo later realised their upstairs bathroom sits directly above this newly unearthed space, and upon lifting one of the ceiling panels, they discovered the floorboards overhead were crumbling, putting their bathtub in serious danger of crashing into the previously concealed room.

They quipped: "We were one bubble bath away from a Final Destination-level chain reaction."

The pair haven't shared a fresh update, though they're presumably working out how to sort the floorboard situation to prevent their bath from plunging through. It remains uncertain whether they'll renovate the hidden room or leave it sealed.

Those commenting on the clips have insisted the room must have been closed off for good reason, warning the couple against meddling with it, as many remain convinced it's genuinely haunted.

One viewer remarked: "There was a reason that the bathroom was covered."
