New Delhi: Big news has emerged for Indian cricket fans regarding the T20 World Cup 2026. On December 20 India announced its 15-member squad. The tournament will begin on February 7 and the final will be played on March 8. India and Sri Lanka will co-host the event. After winning the title in 2024 Team India will be looking to defend its crown with a new-look team and new leadership. Suryakumar Yadav at the helm Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed captain of Team India while Axar Patel has been named vice-captain. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from T20s this team marks the beginning of a completely new era. As captain Suryakumar will have the crucial responsibility of leading with aggressive cricket and finding the right team combination. Reliance on young batsmen The Indian batting line-up features young and explosive players. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will share wicketkeeping duties. Additionally players like Abhishek Sharma Tilak Varma Rinku Singh Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube will strengthen the middle order. Ishan Kishan’s return backed by red-hot form Ishan Kishan has earned his place in the squad on the back of phenomenal form in late 2025. Representing Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he dominated the tournament with explosive centuries and big scores such as 113* 93 and 101*. His power-hitting improved fitness and consistency have put him firmly back in contention for national selection after a period of being sidelined due to fitness and selection issues. Balanced bowling attack In the bowling department India has opted for a good mix of experience and youthful exuberance. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack while Harshit Rana has also been given an opportunity. In the spin department Kuldeep Yadav Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar will provide balance to the team. Scope for squad changes Although the team has been announced according to ICC rules changes are possible without permission until January 7 2026. After that any changes will require the approval of the ICC Technical Committee which is granted only in exceptional circumstances.
