A January move for Antoine Semenyo isn't the only option for Liverpool as they look to cope with the absence of Alexander Isak. That's according to former Reds star Jamie Carragher, who has identified five ways to cover for the Swede.

Isak picked up an injury on Saturday when he was caught by Tottenham defender Mickey van de Ven while scoring Liverpool's opening goal. At the time of writing, the full extent of the issue remains to be seen, but there are fears the £125million striker may have suffered a broken leg.

If that proves true, it could rule Isak out of contention for most - if not all - of the remainder of the season. Arne Slot has found ways of dealing without Isak at times already, with the former Newcastle star missing games with less serious problems, but a lengthy absence could force Slot into more decisive action.

Carragher suggested a January exit for Mohamed Salah is likely to be off the cards, regardless of whether Liverpool add to their ranks. However, he suggested there may well be enough quality and variety within the squad to cover for the injured Isak.

"One thing is for certain now, Mo Salah will be staying at the club," Carragher told Sky Sports. "I think there's a good chance Harvey Elliott would come back from Aston Villa as well.

"Whether Liverpool go for a striker or another attacking player like Semenyo, who Liverpool have been heavily linked with as well, I think we all know he's got a buyout clause in January. Then you've got wide players, as in Salah and [Cody] Gakpo, who've played a lot of games through the middle as well. You've got young Jayden Danns.

"But I think that's the way they could go around it because I don't think Liverpool, when you go back a few years, when they had a real problem at centre-back, they didn't go and spend big money on someone they didn't want. So they won't go out and buy a striker who they don't really want. So if they do want Semenyo, I think that's probably a good way around it."

Liverpool still won on Saturday despite Isak's injury. Hugo Ekitike doubled their lead before Richarlison's late goal gave their nine-man opponents hope in the closing stages.

"The thing in football is you always remember the last few minutes and they were the worst minutes of our total game," Slot told Sky Sports. "If I can calm down a little bit and erase that from my memory I think there is a lot to like in our performance.

"I've stood here many, many times and liked the performance a lot and we were unable to get the three points. Now, for a large part, I liked the performance and we have the three points."
