President of India Draupadi Murmu has assent to the Developed India - Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) (Rural Development Mission) Bill, 2025. Under this Act, the statutory wage employment guarantee for rural households has been increased to 125 days per financial year.

Earlier it was of 100 days. This bill promotes widespread distribution of empowerment and inclusive development.

MNREGA name changed to Ji Ram Ji

The 'Developed India-Ji Ram Ji' 2005 (gram g bill 2025) bill will replace the existing MNREGA law. Regarding this, the government has said that in the last two decades, there has been a huge change in the economic condition, digitalization and connectivity of rural India. In such a situation, instead of reforming the old structure, a new legal framework was necessary. This new bill links rural employment with the vision of 'Developed India 2047'. Its objective is not just to dig pits but to create sustainable infrastructure.

How will the workers benefit?

Workers are going to benefit tremendously from this bill. Earlier, 100 days of work was guaranteed under MNREGA. At the same time, now 125 days of employment will be available, and farmers will also get big benefits. Under this, the states have been given the right to decide the period of work stoppage up to 60 days in a year, keeping in mind the sowing and harvesting season.

Due to this, farmers will not face shortage of laborers during the peak farming season. The laborers will also benefit that they will be able to earn additional income by working on the fields during the farming season and will be able to get employment under VB-G Ram Ji during the rest of the time. This will create balance in the income of both the classes.

How is this new law different from MNREGA?

According to the Central Government, the structural shortcomings of MNREGA have been removed through the VB-G Ram Ji Bill. All the work done under this will be included in the developed India National Rural Infrastructure Stack, due to which the development work done in villages will be conducted under a national framework. This will ensure creation of sustainable and long-term assets.
