The face biometric verification trial during NEET 2025 was successful. Now, from 2026 onwards, live photos and face verification will be mandatory in all major entrance exams, including NEET and JEE. Read the complete information.
To make the country's largest medical entrance examination, NEET, more secure and transparent, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken a major decision. A trial of face biometric verification was conducted during NEET 2025, which was completely successful.
This technology will now be implemented from 2026 in NEET, JEE, and other major national-level entrance examinations. The aim is to eliminate fraud and the problem of dummy candidates in the examination.
Face biometric verification is a modern identification system in which the candidate's face is identified using digital technology. In this system, the candidate's eyes, nose, jaw, and facial structure are scanned and matched with the pre-existing record. This process is completely real-time, eliminating the possibility of any identification errors.
During the NEET 2025 examination, the face biometric system was trialed at some selected examination centers. Live photos of the candidates were taken before the exam and at the time of entry into the center. This was immediately matched with the data available in the system. The technology worked correctly and any identification discrepancies were immediately detected. This is why the NTA has decided to implement it further.
From 2026, several major changes will be seen in the entrance examinations. Candidates will have to provide a live photo at the time of online application. Face biometric matching will be done before entry to the examination center. A real-time photo will be taken using a webcam or mobile camera. If the photo does not match, permission to sit for the exam will not be granted.
Now, no student will be able to have another person sit for the exam in their place. The face biometric system matches the face in real-time, allowing for the immediate identification of fraudulent candidates. This will virtually eliminate the problem of dummy candidates and maintain the fairness of the examination.
Students will have to exercise caution both during the application process and the examination. The photograph must be unfiltered and unedited. On the day of the exam, there should be no covering on your face. The photo must be taken in good lighting, facing the camera. The information linked to your Aadhaar card must be correct and up-to-date.
