Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Basudev Bhoi, a senior revenue assistant posted at the Office of the Settlement Officer, Major Settlement, Sambalpur, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Bhoi was taken into custody following extensive searches conducted on December 24 at multiple locations linked to him. He is scheduled to be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, in Sambalpur.
According to official sources, the raids uncovered a multi-storey building in Bargarh town, another building at Charbhati area in Sambalpur, bank and insurance deposits amounting to Rs.11.56 lakh, a four-wheeler and four two-wheelers, and household articles worth around Rs.6.07 lakh that Bhoi could not satisfactorily explain.
This arrest is part of Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing drive against corruption, which has seen several similar actions in recent weeks, including the detention of a forest range officer and a civil supplies corporation accountant for disproportionate assets.
