New Delhi: Leonardo DiCaprio’s shocking family secret has Indian fans buzzing. The Hollywood superstar revealed his stepmom is a turban-wearing Sikh, sparking joy and surprise online.

From hippie roots to Brad Pitt’s hilarious set mix-up, Leo’s personal tales are stealing the spotlight. What’s the full story behind this unexpected India link? Dive in as fans gush and Leo spills all.

Leo’s family revelation

Leonardo DiCaprio stunned fans in a recent Time magazine interview by sharing details about his unique family. He said, “My stepmother is a Sikh. My father is from the sort of hippie counterculture, grew up in San Fran in Los Angeles. He hung out with a lot of the underground art movement in Los Angeles of the 70s.”

His stepmother, Peggy DiCaprio (née Farrar), is an Amritdhari Sikh who wears a turban and traditional Indian dresses. Reports note she embraced Sikhism years ago but began wearing the turban recently. Peggy married George DiCaprio, Leo’s father, in 1995 after his divorce from Leo’s biological mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, when Leo was just one year old. The couple also shares a son, Adam Farrar, Leo’s stepbrother.

 Fans go wild

Indian fans lit up social media with excitement over Leo’s Sikh connection. One fan commented, “This just made me love him more! He was obviously raised by some good people.”  Another wrote, “Leonardo DiCaprio’s stepmom being a Sikh is a random fact I love lol.” A Sikh fan shared, “I’m a Sikh – no turban for me though-, and it’s wild that one of the most famous actors on the planet is connected somehow to a religion that is not as widely followed as others.”  A longtime admirer added, “I have followed Leo since What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. I have never heard him talk about his family. It’s beautiful.”

Brad Pitt’s funny reaction

Leo recalled a fun moment from the set of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood when his dad and stepmom visited. Co-star Brad Pitt mistook them for extras due to their bohemian style. Leo shared, “I remember when we were turning a corner out of Musso and Frank’s into Hollywood Boulevard. I said to Brad, ‘That’s my dad and my stepmom there, and he goes, ‘Yeah, right!’ I said no, that’s them! He goes, ‘Yeah! right!’ I said I know they look like extras in this movie, but that’s really them! That’s how they dress every day. It was an amazing moment!”

 Leo’s latest hit

DiCaprio recently starred in One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film features Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. It follows ex-revolutionary Bob, living off-grid with daughter Willa, whose peace shatters when nemesis Lockjaw resurfaces, kidnapping Willa and pulling Bob back into violence. Released on September 26, 2025, it earned universal acclaim.
