A treat is being urgently recalled after traces of salmonella were found in it. The recall has been issued by London Wholesalers Ltd, and it affects 300g packages with the batch code 140408 and best before date September 9, 2027.
People who have bought the product affected by the recall, have been urged not to eat it. Point of sale notices will be displayed in stores where the product was sold. Customers can return the nougat to the store, with or without a receipt, to get a full refund.
Symptoms of salmonella, which causes food poisoning, usually include fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps. Nausea and vomiting can also develop. The symptoms normally emerge within 12 to 72 hours of becoming infected.
The UK Health Security Agency says the illness usually lasts from four to seven days, and urges people experiencing severe or prolonged symptoms to consult a doctor.
Nougat is a treat particularly popular at Christmas time in several countries.
This food recall comes after some batches of mince pies were taken off the shelves over "health risk" fears.
On Tuesday evening (December 23), the Food Standards Association (FSA) said The Bakewell Bakery has recalled its Shallow Brandy Mince Pies "because they contain milk which is not mentioned on the label".
The FSA continued: "This means the product is a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."
Affected batches are pack sizes of six with best before dates of February 2, 3, or 4, 2026. The FSA is advising anyone who has bought affected items and who have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, "do not consume them". Shoppers should instead return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund, and no receipt is needed.
