Mum gets £455 Christmas food shop for just £14 in Tesco, but people are divided

One mum managed to get a Christmas food shop worth £455 for just £14 - but not everyone is impressed. The woman, named Jayne, shared a post on social media platform Threads, which showed a self-service till at a branch of Tesco after she had scanned all the food for her Christmas shop, with a total amount to pay of £354.45. But the second picture showed the same till, this time with the total amount remaining to pay of just £14.97.

A third picture showed Jayne's trolley stuffed to the brim with bags of shopping. Even more impressively, the first image showed savings of £100.60 had already been applied, meaning the total value before any discounts was £455.05, and taking the total amount saved to a massive £440.08.

Explaining how she made the massive savings, she said: "The girls and I did the Christmas food shop tonight in Tesco's, it was gone 9.30pm and the tills were still open. All fresh veg being put out, got everything we needed! Didn't even queue, it was great.

"When I bought my new car from Thurlow Nunn this year I got £500 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers, £14.97 paid and still got £200 left, was well chuffed!!"

The Tesco Clubcard scheme gives shoppers one point for every pound spent in-store, with each point worth 1p. These can be converted into vouchers to spend in-store, or can be redeemed directly at the till.

Tesco also offers Clubcard holders reduced prices on a number of goods, while customers can also earn additional points through partner companies - as Jayne apparently did with car dealership Thurlow Nunn.

Social media users were wowed by the post. One said: "Good grief, and here I was chuffed with £40 vouchers." Another wrote: "This has got to be the best savings of 2025."

But others were shocked her shopping bill had been that high in the first place. One said: "It's a shocking scene when one trolley full of shopping is £350+ (assuming no electronics are in there)."

Replying, another said: "I've bought an absolute feast for five people still didn't even spend more than £160 lol."

Someone else wrote: "Goodness knows what she bought but I'm feeding 10 and absolutely not spent £350." But, replying to this, another person said: "That's mental. We spent £500 across M&S and Tesco and that doesn't even include the turkey."

And someone else wrote: "We just moved house and we've probably spent about £350 but we had NOTHING in to start with, not even basics. And that's just factoring for three full-time plus people dropping in between Christmas Eve and the 26th. It's easily done, especially if you have people with any kind of allergies or eating issues (we need to double-buy most ready-made items to accommodate a seed oil allergy in the house."

Clubcard points can also be converted into vouchers for partner firms, which effectively doubles their worth. Partner schemes cover everything from restaurants and hotels to holiday companies and family days out.
