Gandhinagar: The two-day National Conference on “Challenges Posed by Artificial Intelligence” organized at National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar was concluded on 18th October, 2024. In the inaugural session, Ms. S. Sundari Nanda, Special Secretary (Internal Security)-Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Rajeev Kumar Sharma, DG-BPR&D, Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary-MeitY and Dr. J.M. Vyas, Vice Chancellor-NFSU, gave a special speech on the topics of harnessing Artificial Intelligence for law enforcement and investigation. He presented important suggestions regarding AI use, policing and forensics.
Ms S. Sundari Nanda, Special Secretary (Internal Security) – Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony said that indigenous technological scientific solutions are the need of the hour for the security of India’s cyber space. He added that cyber space is becoming complex and local measures are needed to protect critical national infrastructure. Currently, AI based crimes like deep fakes and misinformation are proving to be a serious challenge.
On this occasion, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Abhishek Singh had announced AI Hackathon during the inaugural ceremony and encouraged the students to present AI solutions for the well-being of the society and the nation. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, DG-BPR&D spoke about the relevance of the National Council on current policing. He threw light on the technological and legal aspects of AI.
NFSU Vice Chancellor, Dr. J.M. Vyas had emphasized on developing comprehensive collaboration to overcome the complexities of AI. He stressed the need for creation of “Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence Forensics” to promote collaborative research with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to combat AI based crimes.
