Rumours around Akshaye Khanna’s sudden exit from Ajay Devgns Drishyam 3 have been making headlines for days. The actor who played a crucial role in Drishyam 2 was expected to return for the third part of the successful franchise. Reports suggested that his departure was linked to creative and financial disagreements especially after his recent success. Now producer Kumar Mangat Pathak has opened up and shared what really happened behind the scenes. What did Kumar Mangat Pathak reveal? According to the producer Akshaye Khanna was officially signed for Drishyam 3 and his fees were finalised after several rounds of negotiation. “We had signed an agreement with Akshaye Khanna. His fees also got locked after a lot of renegotiations from his side” Kumar said. One major issue arose when the actor insisted on wearing a wig for his character. Director Abhishek Pathak explained that it would create continuity problems since the film is a sequel. “He understood the point and agreed to let go of that demand” the producer shared. However after advice from people close to him Akshaye again requested the wig. While the director was still open to discussion the actor later decided to leave the film entirely. Allegations of unprofessional conduct The producer then made strong claims about Akshaye Khanna’s attitude and professionalism. “There was a time when Akshaye was nothing. That’s when I made Section 375 with him. Even then people warned us about his unprofessional behaviour. His energy on set is absolutely toxic” Kumar alleged. He added that Akshaye received major recognition only after Drishyam 2 and that recent success from Ranveer Singhs Dhurandhar may have gone to his head. “Some actors do ensemble films and when those films work they start thinking they are the star. That’s exactly what has happened with him. The addition of Jaideep Ahlawat Emphasising that the franchise remains unaffected the producer said “Drishyam is a very big brand. It doesn’t matter whether he is in the film or not.” He confirmed that Jaideep Ahlawat has replaced Akshaye Khanna adding “By God’s grace we have got a better actor and more importantly a better person.” Legal action on Akshaye Khanna Kumar Mangat Pathak also revealed that Akshaye’s exit caused financial losses. “I have already sent him a legal notice. He has not replied yet” he said. As of now Akshaye Khanna has not issued any public response.
