Many changes to banking are going to happen in the beginning of the new year. New banking rules for credit cards, debit cards and ATMs will be applicable. Banks have announced this. Account holders should be aware of this. HDFC Bank has made changes to debit card benefits and features. Apart from this, SBI, ICICI Bank and IDFC First Bank have announced new rules to credit cards. All rules will be applicable only in January 2026. However the date will vary.

As per RBI instructions, all banks and non-banking finance companies will have to share information with credit bureaus every 14 days. This will update the credit score on time. It will also be easy to take loan. This change will come into effect from January 1, 2026. Reserve Bank of India has also issued a notification to this.

Debit card changes

Private sector HDFC Bank has changed the rules to credit card airport lounge access. On spending up to Rs 10,000 every quarter, you will receive SMS and email on registered mobile number/email ID within working days. In which a link will be shared to claim the lounge access voucher. Customers have to claim the voucher by clicking on this link. Then you will get a 12 to 18 digit voucher code on your mobile number and email address.

This code will have to be shown at the time of entry to the lounge. Millennium, Times and Giga debit card holders will get one lounge visit per quarter. The number of quarterly visits on Platinum Debit Card and Business Debit Card will be 2. The number of lounge visits for Infinity Debit Card is 4. This change will come into effect from January 10.

Rules to SBI credit card

State Bank of India has made changes to domestic airport lounge access. The new rules for credit cards with annual fees of Rs 1,499 and Rs 2,999 will be applicable from January 10, 2026. Where the airport lounge access program is managed by the network partners. Cards eligible for lounge access are divided into two sets – Set-A and Set-B. To avail this facility, SBI credit card has to be shown at the lounge POS terminal. A charge of Rs 2 will be levied on Visa and Rupay cards. The temporary fee for MasterCard will be Rs 25.

These banks also changed credit card rules

ICICI Bank:- ICICI Bank has made changes in many services including reward points, dynamic currency conversion fees, add on card fees of some selected credit cards. The new rules will come into effect from January 15. 6 rewards will be available on every retail transaction of Rs 200, this change will be applicable on ICICI Bank Emeralde Credit Card.

IDFC First Bank: From January 18, IDFC Ashwa and Mayura credit card holders will now get 5X reward points instead of 10X. This facility will not be available if the minimum amount is not paid. Now 10X rewards will be available on monthly spend of Rs 20,000 for Classic, Select and Wealth credit cards. This will also apply to birthday spend.

Rules to IndusInd Bank account

IndusInd Bank has made many changes to current and savings accounts, which will be effective from January 1, 2026. The bank has decided to remove quarterly inactive charges. Currently this charge is Rs 200 per quarter. The fee for inward check return has been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 500. Apart from this, there has also been a change in RTGS or NEFT charges.
