Cold turns cold in West Bengal on December 30, 2025 Kolkata records season’s lowest minimum temperature of **12.6°C** (1.2°C below normal). The maximum temperature also dropped unusually to **18.2°C** (7.2°C below normal), resulting in severe cold throughout the day – a first in many years, according to IMD officials.
Temperatures elsewhere (December 29-30): Purulia **7.2°C** (coldest in South Bengal), Darjeeling **4.4°C**, Sriniketan **7.3°C**, Asansol **9.1°C**, Bardhaman **9°C**, Digha **11.2°C**, Cooch Behar **13.6°C**, and Kalimpong **10°C**.
The IMD estimates that the minimum temperature will remain stable for the next two days, and may fall further before gradually rising by 2-3°C after the New Year. Weather over South Bengal will be dry, clear sky with light to moderate fog (visibility ~200m) in the morning. Dense fog (50-199m visibility) will occur over Darjeeling, Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur in North Bengal, with light rain/snow likely over Darjeeling hills between January 1-3.
This cold wave is due to constant north-westerly winds, due to which the entire area is shivering.
