Bank Strike 12th Feb: A nationwide bank employee strike is scheduled for February 12, 2026, which could affect a large number of people. This strike is scheduled for Thursday, and bank unions have announced the strike. Major unions such as the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA), and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) are participating, along with 10 central trade unions. The strike will take place nationwide, and work at bank branches may be affected.

The strike is due to opposition to four new labor codes notified by the government in November. These new codes replace 29 old labor laws and impose strict requirements for registering trade unions. The unions say this is an attack on employees and will harm the working class. Bank employees are also demanding work-life balance and a five-day work week. This strike isn't limited to banks, but is part of the Bharat Bandh, which also includes farmers and other sectors.

Several banks are on strike on February 12th.
Bank of Baroda has issued an alert to the BSE that operations at its branches and offices may be affected due to the strike. The bank has stated that it is making efforts to ensure smooth operations, but if a strike occurs, there could be some disruptions. State Bank of India has also warned customers that services may be affected only to a limited extent. IDBI Bank has also received a strike notice.

Therefore, banks are expected to remain open. However, if employees go on strike, branch operations may be reduced. Public sector banks will be particularly affected, as union members are mostly present there. Private banks may be less affected, but overall banking operations will be affected.

How to handle important bank work?

Customers are advised to complete important work in advance. If you need to withdraw cash, deposit a check, or make a large transaction, do it today or tomorrow. Digital banking services like net banking, mobile apps, UPI, ATMs, and internet banking may not be affected because they are automated and less employee-dependent. However, if branches remain closed, some services like demand drafts or large loan processing may be disrupted.

These strikes are common in the banking sector, but this time, they are protesting against labor codes and are widespread. Unions say millions of employees will participate, and the protest will be strong. While no significant response has yet been received from the government or banks, banks are urging customers to be prepared. If you plan to visit a bank, check to see if your branch is open. Many banks have already issued alerts for this.
