Delhi Capitals has suffered a major setback before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Team mentor and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has decided to step down from his responsibility just a few days before the start of the season.

Kevin Pietersen was associated with Delhi Capitals as a mentor last year. However, the big success that the team expected from him could not be achieved. Despite this, he gave guidance to many young players of the team. Now before IPL 2026, he posted on social media platform X that he will not be able to play the role of mentor with the team this season.
Reason given was lack of time
Explaining the reason behind his decision, Pietersen said that he did not want to take the responsibility of a work that required a lot of time. He wrote, “I will not be able to mentor Delhi Capitals in the IPL this season. I cannot give the time commitment that this role requires. Best wishes to all the players this season. However, you will definitely see me in the commentary box. IPL is the best league in the world and I am excited to watch it.”

Pietersen has made it clear that even though he is stepping down from the role of mentor, he will remain associated with IPL as a commentator.

Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen had recently indicated that he is ready to become the coach of the England national cricket team. The former captain says that he is ready to bring changes in the England Test team and mold it into a new form.
