New achievement of Indian scientist Devendra Chaplot

Indian young scientist Devendra Singh Chaplot has once again brought glory to the country. After completing his studies from IIT-Bombay, he has been inducted into Elon Musk’s companies, SpaceX and xAI. Musk himself welcomed him on the social media platform

The journey from IIT-Bombay to Carnegie Mellon

Devendra Chaplot received his B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay in 2014. He then pursued a PhD in Machine Learning from the Department of Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University, where his research focused on “Intelligent Autonomous Navigation Agents.”

Professional Career and Research

Chaplot started his career at Samsung Electronics in South Korea and then joined Facebook AI Research. Here he did research in the field of computer vision and robotics. In 2020, he joined Mistral AI and led the Multimodal Research team, where he played a key role in training models such as Pixtral Large, Pixtral 12B and Mixtral 8x7B.

Awards and Achievements

Devendra Chaplot has received several international awards, such as Facebook Fellowship (2020) and Best Paper Award at CVPR 2020 AI Habitat Object Navigation Challenge and CVPR 2018 DeepLearning for Visual SLAM Workshop.

New role in SpaceX and xAI

Chaplot is now working as a technical staff at xAI. He mentioned in his post that he has been passionate about robotics and AI research for years. Now, Elon will join Musk’s team and work towards creating superintelligence.
