Desk. The performance of Mumbai Indians team in IPL 2026 has been very disappointing so far. The team has played five matches so far this season, out of which they have won only one. With two points, his team is at 9th position in the points table. The biggest tension for Mumbai Indians at this time is regarding the form of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has not been able to take even a single wicket in this IPL yet. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has come out in support of Bumrah. He told that Bumrah was playing with a mild injury in the initial matches of this season.
Speaking to the media after the match against Punjab Kings, Jayawardene said that Bumrah is bowling well. We are simply not able to put pressure on the opposing teams in the powerplay. He further said that the opposition team knows that there is no need to take too many risks against Bumrah. We have tried some different methods but he is batting well. I can’t point a finger at any one thing and say that he hasn’t taken wickets. During this, Jayawardene also revealed that Bumrah was slightly injured at the beginning of the IPL but now he has completely recovered.

Jayawardene also talked about Rohit Sharma’s injury during this period. He told that Rohit’s injury is not serious and the team management does not want to put him under much pressure as the tournament is still in the initial stages. Jayawardene told that Rohit has started running from yesterday (Wednesday) and has also started batting. We are checking his recovery every day. His injury is not serious but at the same time, we do not want to rush and it is still the beginning of the season. But Jayawardene did not say anything clearly regarding which match Rohit will return from.
In this press conference, Jayawardene also made it clear that even after losing four consecutive matches, there is no pressure on Hardik Pandya. He said that I don’t think it is only Hardik’s responsibility. This is the responsibility of all of us. When we don’t perform well, it’s not any one person’s fault, it’s the responsibility of me and everyone involved in the team management to figure out how we can perform better.
