Effective May 1, 2026, the government has not only hiked the prices of commercial LPG cylinders but has also increased the rates for 5-kilogram Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders. The price of each 'Chhotu' cylinder has been raised by ₹261.
The price of the 'Chhotu' gas cylinder had witnessed an increase last month as well. Along with commercial cylinders, its price had also gone up during the previous month. On April 1, 2026, the price of this 5-kg cylinder was hiked by ₹51; this time, the increase stands at ₹261 per cylinder. However, the government has not imposed any price hike on domestic LPG cylinders.
**How to Obtain This Cylinder**
This cylinder has been specifically designed for individuals who require smaller quantities of gas or who frequently relocate from one place to another. Under this scheme, 5-kg cylinders are available under the brand names 'Bharat Gas Mini' (from Bharat Petroleum) and 'Indane Chhotu' (from Indian Oil). The most significant convenience offered is that one is not required to submit proof of address to purchase it. You can easily purchase it by simply presenting any valid government-issued identity card, such as an Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, or Driving License.
**The Impact of LPG Price Hikes on the Hotel Industry**
