Hanur: A state transport bus overturned after the driver reportedly lost control at the first cross of Talubetta in Hanur taluk on Friday (May 1).
The bus, bearing registration number KA09 F 5415, was travelling from Male Mahadeshwara Hills to Kollegal when the accident occurred. Around 30 to 40 passengers are reported to have been injured.
The injured were given first aid at Kaudalli and Hanur hospitals and later shifted to Kollegal hospital for further treatment. Tahsildar Chaithra visited the Hanur hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured. She also discussed with doctors and arranged for shifting patients to other hospitals if needed. Overspeeding is said to be the cause of the accident.
Delay in ambulance service
Despite the bus overturning and passengers being injured, ambulance services did not reach on time. This led to anger among the injured and the public.
Concerns over overspeeding
Passengers and locals said that buses operating to Male Mahadeshwara Hills are often driven at high speed, leading to frequent accidents. They demanded action from the transport department and elected representatives. They said Friday’s accident was also due to overspeeding.
Traffic congestion
Following the accident, traffic congestion was reported for some time on the Male Mahadeshwara Hills road, which usually sees heavy movement of devotees.
