Jammu. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma on Saturday conducted a comprehensive review of the security arrangements in Shiv Khodi-Ransu area of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, he stressed on effective use of surveillance systems to ensure security. He took stock of the security arrangements by reaching Teriath area of Ransu-Shiv Khodi-Pauni belt, where terrorists had fired on a bus full of pilgrims on June 9, 2024.
Nine people were killed and 33 others were injured in this incident. A 53-seater bus going from Shiv Khodi temple to Katra had fallen off the road into a deep ditch near Teriath village of Pauni area after heavy firing. Officials said Udhampur-Reasi Range DIG Sharma reviewed the preparedness of the police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed in Ransu, Shiv Khodi and Pauni.
During the visit, Sharma took stock of the overall security arrangements for the smooth and safe conduct of Shri Shiv Khodi Yatra. Shiv Khodi is a famous natural cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Reasi district. This cave, approximately 200 meters long, has a four-foot high natural Shivalinga, which is visited by 15 to 20 lakh devotees every year, especially during Mahashivratri.
