Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia has given a big statement warning Rajasthan Royals (RR). Saikia has said that action will be taken to ensure that the image of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not adversely affected. Speaking to the media at BCCI headquarters on Saturday (May 2), he said that players and officials should follow the prescribed discipline to maintain the image of IPL. The BCCI is considering more stringent measures to crack down on parties who violate the rules.
Saikia’s statement comes just after RR captain Ryan Parag and team manager Romi Bhinder were fined for two separate incidents during IPL 2026. Saikia said in his statement, ‘We have said very clearly in the press release that we are considering some other options to rein in those teams which are violating the rules. We will take some action and we are considering the various terms and conditions and protocols of the IPL on how teams should behave.
‘We will take action…’
Riyan Parag was seen vaping in the dressing room. After this, he was fined 25 percent of the match fee and also given one demerit point. Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh for violating the PMOA protocol. Bhinder had used a mobile phone in the RR dugout.
Saikia said, ‘It is not just their players or any officials. As a team, they have to maintain a certain discipline so that the image of IPL never gets affected badly. To ensure this, we will have to take a decision and take some action. Taking action against Parag, the board had said in its email, ‘BCCI is also considering other options to initiate strict action against the team, its officials and players violating the rules.’
When Saikia was asked whether Punjab Police had contacted BCCI? This question was put before him because vaping is completely banned in the country under the ‘Electronic Cigarette Prohibition Act 2019’. In response to this question, Saikia said, ‘No. There is no such situation.
