Uruguay have officially announced their 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Marcelo Bielsa selecting a balanced mix of seasoned professionals and in-form stars for the tournament to be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

La Celeste will be participating in their 15th World Cup and will look to add a third title to their collection, following their triumphs in 1930 and 1950. Atlético Madrid defender José María Giménez has been named captain, bringing with him extensive international experience, having already represented Uruguay nearly a hundred times.

One of the most notable selections is the return of veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The 39-year-old had previously stepped away from international football but has made a comeback for what is expected to be his final appearance at the World Cup. This will mark his fifth participation in the tournament, a testament to his enduring career at the highest level.

Uruguay’s campaign will heavily depend on the performances of several key players, including Real Madrid’s dynamic midfielder Federico Valverde, Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo, Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte, Flamengo playmaker Giorgian de Arrascaeta, and Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez.

However, there are some surprising omissions. Former Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira has not been included in the squad, while legendary forward Luis Suárez misses out on a World Cup selection for the first time since the 2010 edition in South Africa.

Uruguay are set to kick off their World Cup journey against Saudi Arabia before taking on Cape Verde and Spain in the group stage.
