WAJO – The 2026 FIFA World Cup will officially kick off on Thursday (June 11, 2026) at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The world’s biggest football tournament will be hosted across three nations — the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Football enthusiasts around the globe are gearing up to support their favourite national teams.

Among them is the Regent of Wajo, Andi Rosman.

For this edition, Andi Rosman is placing his hopes on the Argentina national football team.

He stated that Argentina remains one of the strongest football teams in the world.

“Argentina is my favourite team. Apart from being three-time world champions, they also have an extraordinary squad,” he said during an interview at his official residence on Jl Veteran, Sengkang, Wednesday (June 3, 2026).

He elaborated that the team, nicknamed La Albiceleste, has a rich history in world football.

“In 1986, Argentina were crowned champions. That time, the legendary Diego Maradona led Argentina to victory after defeating West Germany in the final,” he recalled.

“The most iconic moment was Maradona’s goal known as the ‘Hand of God’. I was around 14 years old then, and from that moment on, I became deeply attached to Argentina’s glory,” Andi Rosman continued.

He added that in the modern era, Argentina has once again proven its dominance.

Most notably, they reclaimed the World Cup title at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

“We all know Lionel Messi, one of the best players in the world today. I believe he will once again lead the team to victory,” he explained.

He also noted that Argentina’s combination of talented players and a brilliant coach is their main strength going into the World Cup.

“Just imagine the attacking line with Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who recently helped Aston Villa win the Europa League,” Andi Rosman said.

“Their coach, Lionel Scaloni, guided Argentina to win both the 2022 World Cup and the 2021 Copa America. He’s extremely experienced,” he added.

Andi Rosman expressed his hope that Argentina will successfully defend their world title — achieving a back-to-back championship.

“I’m optimistic that Argentina will retain the world title and secure their fourth World Cup trophy,” Andi Rosman concluded.
