When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
It is noteworthy that the 8th Pay Commission is to be implemented from January 1, 2026, because the period of the 7th Pay Commission has ended on December 31, 2025. The formation of the 8th Pay Commission was announced in January 2025, but it was notified by the Finance Ministry through a notification dated 3 November 2025.
The Eighth Pay Commission has been given 18 months to submit its report, according to which its final recommendations are likely to come around April or May 2027. In such a situation, whenever the new pay rates will be implemented, employees and pensioners will also get the benefit of lump sum arrears. This big decision is going to have a direct impact on about 50 lakh central employees and more than 65 lakh pensioners of the country.
