Manchester United have officially confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund has sealed a permanent move to Napoli, delivering the Premier League club a financial boost of around £38 million. This marks United’s third confirmed transfer of the summer, following the departures of Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia.

Hojlund had joined Napoli on a season-long loan last summer, with a conditional obligation to buy if he helped the Serie A side secure a Champions League qualification spot. The 23-year-old forward delivered an impressive campaign, netting 12 goals in 33 Serie A appearances as Napoli finished second behind champions Inter Milan, thereby confirming their place in next season’s Champions League.

Following this achievement, Napoli exercised the £38 million option to buy, providing Manchester United with a timely financial gain during the ongoing transfer window.

An official club statement read: “Rasmus Hojlund has joined Napoli on a permanent transfer. The Denmark international spent last season on loan with the Italian club, scoring 16 goals in 44 matches across all competitions, and has now made the move permanent.

“The lifelong United supporter originally signed from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 and went on to score 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Reds. He was part of the squad that lifted the Emirates FA Cup in May 2024, coming on as a substitute in the final against Manchester City at Wembley.

“At the start of the 2025/26 season, Hojlund returned to Italy on loan, helping Napoli win the Supercoppa Italiana and finish runners-up in Serie A. Everyone at the club wishes Rasmus the very best for the future.”

Hojlund’s performances helped Napoli secure Champions League qualification, effectively triggering his permanent switch to the Italian side. The Danish striker has already expressed his emotions about the move, writing a heartfelt farewell to United fans on social media last month.

In his message, Hojlund said: “This goal felt symbolic because it means two things. We have now secured Champions League football with Napoli, which means, due to my contract, I am officially a Napoli player, and I am saying goodbye to Manchester United.

“It feels strange because over the past year, I already felt like a Napoli player. The way the fans supported me, made me feel at home, and helped me rediscover my confidence is something I will always be grateful for.

“At the same time, saying goodbye to Manchester United feels emotional. My childhood dream came true when I played at Old Trafford in the red shirt. This goal symbolises a fresh and confident new beginning, and I will give everything for Napoli while always being thankful to the United fans, players, and staff who helped make my dream come true.”

“It’s time to chase new dreams.”
