The England and Newcastle United winger appears set to move on to a new chapter this summer.
Anthony Gordon is expected to miss Newcastle United’s upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal this weekend after being sidelined from training due to a hip injury.
The winger was also unavailable for last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, a result that left the Magpies sitting in 14th place following three consecutive losses.
Manager Eddie Howe would certainly benefit from having one of his key players fit and available, but it now raises the question — have we already seen the last of Gordon in a Newcastle shirt?
Speculation is mounting that Bayern Munich are preparing to launch a move for Gordon during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The England international is also eager to ensure he reaches full fitness ahead of the World Cup, which is now less than two months away.
The winger is understandably cautious about aggravating the hip problem that sidelined him last weekend.
With a potential high-profile transfer on the horizon and the World Cup approaching, it would make little sense for Gordon to risk worsening his injury — particularly given Newcastle’s current position with little left to play for this season.
Howe’s squad has endured a challenging campaign, and with European qualification now out of reach, the club may struggle to retain key players should they choose to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Gordon, meanwhile, will be eager to feature in the Champions League again after impressing in this season’s competition. He scored 10 goals in 12 appearances — a tally surpassed only by Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.
Those standout performances have caught the attention of Bayern Munich, who have previously succeeded in recruiting Premier League forwards such as Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz.
In the Premier League, however, Gordon’s output has been more modest — six goals and two assists across 26 matches this season.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old’s hip issue is not expected to jeopardise his World Cup chances, and Newcastle remain optimistic he could return for the closing stages of the campaign.
Nevertheless, it is uncertain whether Gordon will represent the club again, three years on from his switch from Everton.
