Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has ignited speculation among Spurs supporters after giving a major clue about a possible reunion with his former teammate Savinho. The North London side are reportedly pushing to sign the Manchester City winger for the upcoming season, following a challenging spell for the Brazilian at the Etihad Stadium.

Simons fuels rumours of Savinho reunion

Simons’ recent Instagram activity has led fans to believe that Savinho is one of Tottenham’s top summer targets. The pair previously played together at PSV Eindhoven, and Simons’ online interactions have hinted that Spurs may be advancing toward a deal for the sidelined City winger as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.

The Brazilian forward has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City after the conclusion of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign. Despite signing a long-term deal until 2031 last year, Savinho struggled to cement a regular starting role under Pep Guardiola, whose departure has left his future at the club uncertain.

Talks ongoing with Manchester City

Tottenham are moving swiftly to rebuild their squad after a disappointing season in which they narrowly avoided relegation. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that negotiations between Tottenham and Manchester City over Savinho’s transfer are progressing positively, with the North London club aiming to finalise their third signing of the summer window.

Manchester City are believed to have set a £60 million price tag for the 22-year-old. Although a similar move was blocked last summer, the rise of Antoine Semenyo and new manager Enzo Maresca’s plans to reshape the squad have made City more open to selling Savinho for the right fee. The winger is said to have approved the move, hoping to secure consistent first-team football.

A crucial summer for Spurs

The Tottenham board faces mounting pressure to build a stronger team after finishing just two points above the relegation zone. Having lost several key players over the past year, the club’s leadership is determined to avoid another survival battle. Savinho has been identified as a key target who can bring flair and pace to an attack that often lacked sharpness last season.

Sharing an update on the situation via X, Fabrizio Romano stated: “Negotiations ongoing for Savinho to Tottenham as revealed two weeks ago… and progressing well. #THFC believe Savinho wants the move, talks continue as Man City could open doors to his exit in case of good proposal. Deal on.”

Manchester City’s post-Savinho plans

If the transfer goes through, Manchester City’s director Hugo Viana is expected to begin searching for a replacement immediately. While Antoine Semenyo has already proven to be a valuable addition since arriving from Bournemouth in January, Omar Marmoush’s potential move to Spain could leave a gap in City’s attacking lineup.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are not limiting their recruitment to Savinho. The club has already completed free-transfer deals for Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson as part of their plan to create a more stable foundation for next season. Judging by Simons’ recent online activity, bringing in the £60 million Brazilian winger could be the next major piece in Tottenham’s summer rebuild.
