Panama faced the Dominican Republic in an international friendly match as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The series of World Cup 2026 warm-up fixtures continued with matches involving the Panama national team and the South Korea national team.
Two friendly games took place on Thursday morning (4 June 2026, WIB): Panama versus the Dominican Republic and South Korea against El Salvador.
The match between Panama and the Dominican Republic was held at Estadio Rimmel Fernandez.
The hosts entered the game aiming to bounce back after suffering a heavy defeat to Brazil in their previous friendly outing.
Panama managed to recover in style, securing a 4-2 victory over the Dominican Republic.
Thomas Christiansen’s side dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead.
The two first-half goals for the Central American team were scored by Tomas Rodriguez in the 16th minute and Victor Griffith in the 44th minute.
The second half turned into an intense contest, with both teams finding the net twice.
The Dominican Republic reduced the deficit to 1-2 in the 47th minute through a goal from former Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz.
Panama restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute when Cecilio Waterman found the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, the Dominican Republic struck again, making it 3-2 through Erick Japa’s effort.
Panama sealed the win near the end of the match, with Kadir Barria scoring their fourth goal to make it 4-2 at full time.
After this clash, Panama are scheduled to face another World Cup 2026 participant, Bosnia & Herzegovina, on Sunday (7 June 2026) at 02.00 WIB.
In another friendly, South Korea had to work hard to overcome El Salvador.
Facing the team ranked 101st in the FIFA world rankings, the Taegeuk Warriors struggled to break the deadlock in the first half.
The score remained goalless at 0-0 going into halftime.
South Korea finally broke through in the second half, with Dong-gyeong Lee scoring the opening goal in the 57th minute.
The Korean side made significant changes shortly after, introducing eight substitutes between the 62nd and 63rd minutes, after already making two changes earlier in the half.
This included the appearance of team captain Son Heung-min, who came on in the 63rd minute.
However, Lee’s goal remained the only difference between the two sides as South Korea clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over El Salvador.
