Speculation is mounting regarding the political future of K. Annamalai, the former president of the Tamil Nadu BJP. Reports suggest that he is set to make a significant political announcement in Chennai on June 5, with sources indicating that his departure from the party is nearly confirmed. On June 2, Annamalai met with Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, amid growing discussions about his potential resignation from the BJP. He has reportedly informed the party's high command about his decision to resign.
Following the meetings, the party assured Annamalai that they would respond soon after discussing the issues at hand. Although the details of the 30-minute meeting were not officially released, party insiders hinted that he was asked to postpone his resignation plans for the time being. Sources indicated that Annamalai wishes to part ways with the BJP amicably and avoid any public confrontation with the party leadership.
According to reports, the former IPS officer had been contemplating leaving the party for months. Close associates of Annamalai believe that the political landscape in Tamil Nadu has shifted significantly following the rise of actor Vijay in politics. There are also indications that Annamalai is considering launching a public movement, leading to speculation about whether this movement could eventually evolve into a political party.
Amid ongoing speculation about the formation of a new political party, Annamalai previously hinted that clarity on this matter would be provided soon. Speaking to reporters before his departure to Delhi, he stated, “Please wait. We will discuss this in two days.” He further mentioned that he would soon address all questions and clarify his position.
