In response to the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a high-level meeting on Friday to discuss measures aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future. The government has taken a firm stance, stating that any building owner, official, or individual found responsible for the Malviya Nagar fire will face strict consequences.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts to ensure public safety in the capital. This includes adherence to safety standards, effective monitoring systems, and accountability mechanisms to avert such tragedies and enhance the safety of Delhi. Senior officials from the Delhi Police, Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, New Delhi Municipal Council, DDA, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Water Board, and other relevant departments will participate in this meeting at the Delhi Secretariat.
She stated that a thorough investigation into the causes of the devastating fire at the guest house in Malviya Nagar will be conducted, and those found guilty will be punished. The Chief Minister reiterated that strict actions will be taken against illegal properties, unlicensed hotels and guest houses, and any institutions violating fire safety regulations and building codes in the capital.
According to the Chief Minister, she is gathering detailed information from various departments and is working to establish accountability among the relevant officials while identifying the causes of such incidents. She noted that corruption and negligence in some departments have led to unnecessary challenges for the government. To prevent the recurrence of such events, stringent and effective measures must be implemented to safeguard lives and property, thereby establishing Delhi as a secure capital.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government will enforce stricter and more accountable regulations to curb illegal constructions. The Delhi government will take action against hotels and guest houses operating without proper licenses and will not spare any institution that violates safety and construction regulations.
