BONE – The Head of Criminal Investigation at Bone Police, AKP Alvin Aji Kurniawan, shared that he has an unforgettable memory from the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

The police officer recalled the dramatic moment when the Italian national team was eliminated by South Korea in the Round of 16.

According to Alvin, the 2002 World Cup remains the most memorable tournament in his life.

He explained that it was during that edition that he began following the World Cup more seriously than in previous years.

“The most memorable moment was the 2002 World Cup because it was the first time I really followed the tournament,” he said when interviewed on Friday (June 5, 2026).

Alvin admitted that he has long been a loyal supporter of the Italian national team.

Therefore, Italy’s defeat to South Korea in the 2002 World Cup is something he still remembers vividly to this day.

At that time, Italy had to concede a 1–2 loss to host nation South Korea after extra time.

The result ended Italy’s campaign prematurely and became one of the biggest shocks of the tournament.

“What I remember the most is when Italy lost to South Korea,” he recalled.

Nevertheless, Alvin has continued to follow global football developments ever since.

For the 2026 World Cup, however, he said he could no longer support Italy.

This is because Gli Azzurri failed to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup finals.

That situation made Alvin shift his support to another team.

In this edition, he has chosen Portugal as the team he will root for.

His main reason is his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, also known as CR7.

According to Alvin, Ronaldo is one of the greatest players ever to grace world football.

Although the Portuguese captain is no longer young, Alvin still deeply admires him.

“For this World Cup, I’m supporting Portugal because I like CR7,” he stated.

Alvin hopes that Portugal can perform at their best and go far in the 2026 World Cup.

He also wishes that the four-yearly tournament will once again deliver exciting matches for football fans around the world to enjoy.
