Under the Central Government's National Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, financial assistance of ₹15,000 per month is provided to meritorious students from economically weaker sections for their postgraduate (PG) studies.

The Central Government's National Postgraduate Scholarship (NSPG) scheme brings significant relief to students from economically weaker sections who aspire to pursue higher education. Under this scheme, eligible students receive financial assistance of ₹15,000 per month during their postgraduate (PG) studies.

The objective of this government initiative is to encourage meritorious students to continue their higher education by providing financial support. Often, students are forced to discontinue their postgraduate studies due to financial constraints; this scheme can prove highly beneficial for such students.

How much is the scholarship?

Students selected under the National Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme receive a scholarship of ₹15,000 per month. This amount is provided for 10 months of the year. Students can avail the benefits of this scheme for a maximum duration of two years during their studies. Consequently, eligible students can receive total financial assistance of up to ₹3 lakh over two years, significantly reducing their educational expenses.

Who can apply?

The benefits of this scholarship scheme are available only to students enrolling in a postgraduate course for the first time. Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time PG course at a recognized institution or university. Additionally, the applicant must be under 30 years of age at the time of application. To ensure the scheme reaches students in need, the government has also set a limit on family income.

What is the income limit?

To apply for the scheme, the annual income of the student's family must not exceed ₹6 lakh. Eligibility will be verified based on an income certificate. How will the selection be made?

Selection for the National Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme will be based on All-India merit. This means a merit list will be prepared based on the academic performance and prescribed criteria of applicants from across the country. Eligible candidates will be selected according to this merit list; consequently, students with a strong academic record have a higher chance of selection.

Application Process

Students must apply for this scheme online. Applications are accepted through the National Scholarships Portal. Candidates are required to complete the e-KYC process during the application. Additionally, students must upload mark sheets (from Class 9 up to their highest qualification), admit cards, bank account details, and other necessary documents.
