Amit Shah Launch Land Port Management System: To further strengthen the country’s borders and internal security, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday (09 June). It is a modern digital platform, designed to make the operations of India’s land ports more effective and streamlined.
According to the government, secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information will be possible through LPMS. With this, land ports will also be equipped with modern digital facilities like airports and seaports. This initiative is an important step towards taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of smart border management.
Many facilities will be available in LPMS
The objective of this new system is to make cross-border trade and passenger movement easy, secure and transparent. Features like slot booking, online payment, tracking and single-window clearance will be available in LPMS. This will speed up the process of goods and passengers and save time.
On this occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah will also inaugurate new residential facilities at Daki in Meghalaya and Srimantpur Land Ports in Tripura. These facilities will provide better living and working arrangements to the security forces personnel and other employees.
There will be better coordination between institutions
LPMS is linked to national digital platforms such as Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE), Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) and Motor Vehicle Ecosystem. This will lead to better coordination between various government agencies and private institutions, reduce delays in work and increase efficiency.
The government says this system will help promote trade, strengthen connectivity and improve national security. Besides, it will also play an important role in achieving the goal of developed India by the year 2047.
What is Land Ports Authority?
The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), which functions under the Department of Border Management of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for the development and operation of the country’s land ports. At present LPAI is operating 15 land ports located on the international borders of India. These ports are located on the borders of Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar and play an important role in promoting trade, travel and regional cooperation.
