Manchester United are reportedly preparing a formal bid to secure the signing of Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in the latter half of last season, with Michael Carrick—who took over from Ruben Amorim in January—guiding Manchester United to a third-place finish and sealing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
This strong finish has provided a significant boost to United’s transfer budget as they head into the summer market. The club is targeting at least two midfielders, a left-back, and a left-winger, while there are also suggestions that they could stretch their spending to include a new centre-back and possibly a striker.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed last week that INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have already completed their first signing of the summer, with Brazilian midfielder Ederson officially joining Manchester United from Atalanta.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Manchester United have formally completed their first signing of the summer. The ‘here we go’ announcement came a few days ago, but now all documents have been signed between Manchester United and Atalanta for Ederson. The Brazilian midfielder is officially a Manchester United player from today.
“What remains is for Ederson to travel to England after his holidays, undergo his official medical, and sign his contract. I’ve been told that an initial informal medical was already conducted with Atalanta’s consent and everything went well. The agreement between Ederson and Manchester United has been in place for months, as the player was determined to make this move.
“The clubs have now completed the written agreement. For the official unveiling and to see Ederson holding the Manchester United jersey, fans will need a bit more patience as the final steps are completed. However, all paperwork is now done, and Manchester United have secured their first midfield signing of the summer.
“Manchester United are not stopping there. They are aiming for at least one more midfielder, and work is already underway behind the scenes. After finalising the Ederson deal, the club will continue to push for further reinforcements in midfield.”
Meanwhile, Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has reported that Manchester United are already working on their next move, with a plan to submit an offer for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero.
Edul, who has 1.2 million followers on X, wrote: “Manchester United want to sign Cuti Romero and are preparing an offer.”
Former Manchester United forward Giuseppe Rossi believes the club could use more experience in their squad and has suggested the signing of Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer.
Speaking to Ozoon, Rossi said: “Robert Lewandowski to Manchester United? Yeah, why not?
“Of course, Lewandowski would be an incredible addition for the younger players, offering his experience and big-game mentality. With Benjamin Sesko being a young, developing talent, having someone like Lewandowski around would only help him. It’s a no-brainer. He has an outstanding track record, and on a short-term deal, it’s a win-win situation.”
