Manchester City are reportedly preparing a renewed offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson after their initial bid was turned down. As per talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, City are ready to exceed the £80 million mark for the England international, though Forest are standing firm and could seek a fee similar to what Arsenal paid for Declan Rice.
This move underlines City’s serious intent and their determination to reinforce their midfield options. Following a season of transition and uncertainty, Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to inject more energy, dynamism, and Premier League-proven quality into their central areas.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are still in the running, though they acknowledge that City currently lead the chase for the 23-year-old. According to The Guardian, United remain hopeful of competing for Anderson despite City’s status as favourites and their proactive approach in making the first formal bid.
For United, pursuing Anderson aligns with their ongoing midfield rebuild under Michael Carrick. The club has already agreed to a £35 million deal for Atalanta’s Éderson, and adding Anderson would bring a different dimension — greater ball progression, domestic league experience, and tactical adaptability.
Nottingham Forest, however, are not in a rush to sell. Anderson, who arrived from Newcastle United in 2024 for around £35 million, has quickly become one of Forest’s most valuable assets. Sky Sports has reported that Forest dismissed City’s opening offer and will set a high valuation, especially given the growing market prices for top-tier midfielders.
Anderson’s statistics justify the widespread interest. He contributed four goals and four assists across 38 appearances last season and earned a place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
At this stage, City appear to be in the stronger position. They have taken the initiative, can offer Anderson a defined role in a world-class setup, and seem ready to meet the financial demands. United, while still keen, may need to act swiftly and decisively if they hope to turn the tide in this high-stakes transfer tussle.
