Christian Eriksen has shared that he is “feeling good” and recuperating at home after collapsing on the field while representing Denmark.
The friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine was called off after Eriksen fell on the pitch in the 65th minute of play.
Following the incident, Eriksen confirmed that his Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) — a device fitted after he suffered a cardiac arrest in 2021 during another Denmark match — discharged a shock during the game against Ukraine, which prevented another cardiac arrest.
In an update, Eriksen stated, “I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family.”
He continued, “As you can imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has been a major experience for both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021.”
“I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started,” he added.
Eriksen also expressed his gratitude, saying, “Along with being thankful for the support and assistance of all the players and medical staff on the field, I am deeply appreciative of the doctors who have taken care of me and my heart over the years.”
“Thanks to their expertise, my ICD performed exactly as it was meant to — protecting me when I needed it most,” he said.
“For the time being, my focus is on recovery, spending quality time with my family, taking a vacation, and enjoying football with my children.”
