The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the second mock seat allocation report for the counseling cycle. This allocation is based on the choices submitted by candidates up to 5 PM on June 9. Essentially, this is the second allotment round conducted by JoSAA prior to the actual seat allocation process. The mock allotment is designed to allow candidates to preview potential seat allocations based on their current preference order and their ranks in JEE Main or JEE Advanced 2026.
Mock Allotment 2 offers candidates a final opportunity to review their potential seat outcome and modify their choice list before finalizing it, as choices cannot be altered once locked. Candidates who do not manually lock their choices before the deadline should note that the system will automatically lock their saved preference order, treating it as final.
This mock allotment is provisional and should not be considered a final seat offer. The result of the first round of final seat allocation will be declared on June 13 at 10 AM. The deadline for completing the registration and choice-filling process for JoSAA counseling 2026 is June 11.
Why is JoSAA counseling important?
JoSAA counseling manages the joint seat allocation process for admissions to 138 engineering institutes across the country. These include 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 56 other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Seat allocation in IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks, whereas JEE Main ranks are used for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
What happens if one has less than 75% marks in Class 12? IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2026, recently confirmed that the JoSAA counselling process will remain open for candidates who have secured less than 75% marks in Class 12. However, they will be required to submit their final marksheets by July 15.
