Bayern Munich are currently in discussions with PSV Eindhoven over a possible transfer that would see the talented midfielder make his way to the Bundesliga.
The German champions had already shown interest in Ismael Saibari even before the World Cup kicked off, keeping a close watch on his performances.
According to reports, Bayern Munich have tabled a €53 million (£45.7 million) offer for the PSV star this week. However, the Dutch club are firm on their stance, insisting that the full amount must be paid upfront before any agreement can be finalised.
Morocco international Saibari has further intensified the spotlight on himself by scoring a superb goal and delivering an outstanding display against Brazil, potentially alerting other clubs to his availability.
The reigning African champions, Morocco, entered this tournament once again as potential underdogs, having impressed by reaching the semi-finals at the last World Cup in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Brazil arrived with a point to prove after a challenging qualification campaign that prompted the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager last year.
That appointment may have only heightened expectations for the Selecao, who are under immense pressure to perform.
Brazil are eager to improve on their recent record of four quarter-final exits and a single semi-final appearance in their past five World Cups — a semi-final that remains one of the most painful moments in their football history.
They suffered a major scare in their opening Group C match as Morocco took the lead early on, threatening to derail Brazil’s tournament start.
Brahim Diaz produced a sublime through ball that split the Brazilian defence, and Saibari timed his run to perfection, breaking through on goal against Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
The Brazilian shot-stopper could do little as Saibari expertly chipped the ball over him from outside the box, giving Morocco a 1-0 advantage.
Outclassing world-class players like Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Alisson with such composure and flair on a grand stage underlined exactly why Bayern Munich are so eager to secure his signature.
However, that kind of world-class strike could also attract attention from other European powerhouses — meaning Bayern may need to move swiftly and meet PSV’s demands, rather than haggling over an additional €5 million, to avoid missing out on the Moroccan star.
Raised in Belgium, Saibari joined PSV in 2020, starting out in their youth ranks before breaking into the senior team during the 2022/23 campaign.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a remarkable season last year, scoring 19 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions and playing a crucial role in PSV’s triumph in the Eredivisie title race.
