Heart attacks in children are still much lower than in adults, but there is increased concern about the increasing cases of heart problems and sudden cardiac events. There can be many reasons for this..

1. Increasing obesity

Nowadays many children are becoming victims of obesity due to less physical activities and junk food. Obesity increases the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type-2 diabetes, which are linked to heart diseases.

2. Lack of physical activity

Children's active time has reduced due to mobile, TV and video games. Not doing regular exercise is affecting the heart and blood circulation.

3. Wrong eating habits

Consuming excess sugar, salt, trans fat and processed foods can increase heart risks in children from an early age.

4. Congenital heart disease

Some children are born with underlying heart problems, which in severe cases can lead to cardiac arrest.

5. Genetic causes

Children may be at increased risk if there is a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, or sudden cardiac death at an early age.

6. Infection and inflammation

Some viral infections can cause inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis), which can lead to serious heart problems.

What symptoms to pay attention to?

  • chest pain or pressure
  • getting tired quickly while playing
  • breathlessness
  • fainting frequently
  • heart palpitations
  • Dizziness

How to protect?

  • Encourage children to do physical activities for at least 60 minutes every day.
  • Reduce junk food and sugary cold drinks.
  • Give balanced diet.
  • Make sure to get enough sleep.
  • If there is a history of heart disease in the family, get regular health checkups done.
