The Andoni Iraola chapter at Liverpool is gathering momentum as the club initiates a major reshaping of its first-team coaching staff. Following the appointment of the former Bournemouth manager, the Reds have confirmed the departure of three important members from the previous setup.
Liverpool commence transition within the coaching staff
Liverpool have officially announced that Sipke Hulshoff, Ruben Peeters, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have left the club’s coaching team after a successful tenure under Arne Slot. Their exits follow Slot’s departure last month, marking the conclusion of a coaching structure that played a key role in helping Liverpool recapture the Premier League title. The shake-up marks the start of a broader transformation at Anfield as the club moves to establish a new regime.
Liverpool extend gratitude to departing staff
Hulshoff and Peeters joined Liverpool with Slot in the summer of 2024 and were instrumental during an impressive debut season that saw the club secure its 20th English league title. Van Bronckhorst also arrived last summer as an assistant coach, bringing valuable managerial expertise to the backroom team. Liverpool expressed appreciation for their contributions in an official statement confirming their departures.
“The three will now leave their posts following the announcement of Slot’s departure as head coach last month. Everybody at LFC thanks Sipke, Ruben and Gio for all their efforts and contributions to the club and wishes them the best for the future,” the club stated.
Iraola begins assembling his own support staff
The departures have opened up positions within Liverpool’s coaching department and are expected to hasten Iraola’s efforts to bring in his trusted lieutenants. According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, the Spanish tactician plans to reunite with several members of his Bournemouth staff, including assistant coach Tommy Elphick, set-piece coach Shaun Cooper, analyst Tom Webber, and fitness coach Pablo de la Torre. Reuniting with familiar colleagues at Anfield would allow Iraola to embed his footballing philosophy more effectively as he launches a new era at the club.
Pre-season presents the first challenge for Iraola’s new regime
Iraola is set to start work with his players during pre-season next month after signing a two-year deal. This period will be vital for him to assess the squad and introduce his tactical approach ahead of the upcoming campaign. Liverpool’s pre-season schedule includes a tour of the United States, where they will play against Sunderland, Leeds, and Wrexham, before returning to Anfield for friendly fixtures against Monaco and Como.
