Four years ago, 26-year-old Akshay from Parakkamugal in Kakkanad faced a life-altering tragedy. This incident occurred during the World Cup quarter-finals when Brazil was defeated by Croatia.
As a devoted supporter of Brazil, Akshay was enjoying the match with friends on a large screen in his neighborhood. However, he suddenly collapsed right after the final whistle.
This moment remains etched in the memories of his friends. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered a blood clot in his brain. They attributed his deteriorating condition to extremely high blood pressure. Since that fateful day, Akshay has remained in a state of unconsciousness.
A Lifelong Passion for Football
Akshay was not only a fan but also an avid football player, having represented various local clubs and supported the Brazilian national team since childhood.
The recent 2022 World Cup sparked a flicker of hope among his loved ones. Just days ago, his friends visited him to share news about Brazil's upcoming match against Morocco. Although it’s uncertain if Akshay comprehended their words, his family and friends observed a slight reaction from him, a departure from his usual state, which has given them renewed hope.
Friends and caregivers from Kanivu Home Care have rallied around Akshay, even dressing him in a Brazil jersey. His friends, neighbors, and family members have united to help cover his medical costs. Akshay's family includes his father K.T. Purushothaman, a head-load worker, his mother Jaya, and a younger sister.
