The 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to heat up as Iran faces New Zealand in a crucial Group G encounter.
The match is set to take place under the bright lights of Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 08:00 WIB.
Iran enters the contest with high ambitions of making history by advancing to the Round of 16.
Currently ranked 21st in the FIFA world standings, Iran demonstrated consistency throughout the Asian qualifiers, winning seven out of ten matches.
Meanwhile, New Zealand is determined to secure vital points to keep their group-stage hopes alive.
Both teams will field their strongest line-ups, with Iran relying heavily on the attacking partnership of Mehdi Taremi and Sardar Azmoun.
New Zealand, on the other hand, arrives after progressing through the inter-confederation playoffs.
The team, ranked 103rd in the FIFA rankings, has been struggling with confidence under the guidance of coach Darren Bazeley.

Pontianak PSSI Chairman Backs Latin American Nations
The Chairman of Pontianak’s PSSI City Association, Police Commissioner Lely Suheri, expressed his belief that Latin American teams have the strongest chance of lifting the trophy in the 2026 edition.
“I’m backing Brazil and Argentina. In every World Cup, these two nations are always among the favorites because they have history, tradition, and the mentality of champions,” he said on Friday, 5 June 2026.
He further noted that the player quality of both countries is quite balanced and not far behind other top-tier nations.
“In my view, the quality among elite teams is not significantly different. However, teams that have previously won the tournament possess the winning mentality that is crucial in a competition like the World Cup,” he explained.
When asked which players are likely to shine in the 2026 World Cup, Lely mentioned two names he believes will become the tournament’s standout stars.
“I predict two players will rise to stardom — Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal,” he concluded.
