Rivoi News, June 24, 2026 – Does Vimo not pass by using E-20 petrol? This question is arising in the minds of almost every car driver these days. The reason for this is that elements opposed to the progress of the nation have been continuously spreading rumors about this for quite some time now.
Not only in India but in almost all the developed countries of the world, ethanol mixed petrol has been sold for many decades. And it has not been officially reported anywhere that vehicles have faced any problems due to this mixed fuel. However, it is possible that people involved in the business of traditional petrol production and sales and those with established interests combined with them may be afraid of the increasing popularity of ethanol blended petrol. Because their established interests may be harmed due to this.
What is the fact?
In fact, in India, since 2003, i.e., when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power, experiments have been going on to mix ethanol in petrol. This type of petrol was already being sold in America and European countries and car manufacturers are also producing cars that can run on E-20 petrol.
There are two main purposes of ethanol mixed petrol. Firstly, India’s dependence on expensive crude oil imports will be reduced and the level of pollution will also be reduced. Because ethanol is made from sugarcane straw and as a result it does not contain elements that spread poisonous gases in the environment.
Despite all these clarifications made repeatedly by the government as well as experts on the subject, the established interests do not stop spreading propaganda against the E-20. Meanwhile, recently an anti-national element had posted a social media post against E-20 petrol and it was claimed that a car filled with ethanol mixed petrol will break down quickly, but in case of an accident, insurance companies will not pass the insurance of such a car.
The claim of cancellation of insurance is completely false.
It has been clarified by the Petroleum Ministry and PIB Fact Check that using E20 petrol in the vehicle does not invalidate the motor insurance policy. All motor insurance policies will remain fully valid as before.
Insurance company’s clarification: ICICI Lombard General Insurance, which was spreading rumors on social media by linking its name, has itself issued an official statement saying that they do not consider the use of E-20 fuel in old vehicles as negligence and no claim will be rejected on this basis. The claim is decided on the basis of rules like accident or theft, not on the type of fuel.
Ethanol blending program is completely safe: The government has said that this method of making ethanol blended petrol is completely scientific and safe. There is no fear of damage to vehicles due to this.
Big economic benefit to the country: According to the government report, due to this ethanol blending scheme, India has so far saved more than Rs 1.4 lakh crore in foreign exchange, because less crude oil has to be imported from outside. Apart from this, the income of Indian farmers growing sugarcane and grains has also increased due to this.
Conclusion: If E20 petrol is used in your vehicle, it will not have any negative impact on your vehicle insurance claim. The posts of such videos going viral on social media are just rumours.
