Como have stepped up their interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, with Serie A title-holders Inter Milan now monitoring the situation closely as competition builds for his signature in Italy.
Chalobah is increasingly tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with the England international currently away on duty with the national team at the World Cup. Both Inter and newly-promoted Como are keen to secure his services, with the latter already submitting a formal offer.
Como submit official proposal for Chalobah
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Como have tabled an official bid for the Chelsea centre-back. The ambitious club, managed by former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, are eager to strengthen their squad after remarkably qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Chalobah, who joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight, has emerged as one of their top defensive targets to anchor their European campaign.
Although the transfer fee remains confidential, Chelsea are reported to be open to listening to offers for the Cobham graduate. Despite making 47 appearances across all competitions last season and scoring three goals in the Premier League, the club’s management is willing to sell to raise funds for defensive reinforcements. Chalobah is under contract until 2028, giving the Blues a strong position in negotiations.
Inter Milan keeping a close watch
Inter Milan are also monitoring developments, considering a move for the versatile defender. The Nerazzurri are seeking players with solid European experience, and Chalobah’s adaptability and Premier League background make him a compelling option for Cristian Chivu’s squad. Should a bidding battle emerge, Chelsea could command a substantial fee for their academy product.
Joining Inter would represent a significant step up in terms of immediate prestige, as the club prepares to defend its Scudetto title and compete in the Champions League. For Chalobah, the lure of regular European football is particularly appealing, especially since Chelsea will not feature in any continental competition next season following their disappointing 10th-place Premier League finish.
Tuchel’s trust and England’s defensive options
Despite the uncertainty over his club future, Chalobah remains in favour with England manager Thomas Tuchel. The former Chelsea head coach handed the defender a late World Cup call-up after Tino Livramento withdrew due to injury. Tuchel’s decision to select Chalobah ahead of Manchester United veteran Harry Maguire underlines the 26-year-old’s continued value at the top level.
Though Chalobah has yet to feature in England’s campaign – having sat out both the 4-2 victory over Croatia and the 0-0 draw with Ghana – his inclusion reflects Tuchel’s faith in his abilities. The selection also reinforced Maguire’s omission from the squad, signalling a generational shift in England’s defensive hierarchy.
Chelsea’s defensive rebuild in progress
Chalobah’s potential departure forms part of a wider defensive overhaul under new coach Xabi Alonso. Chelsea are already lining up replacements, with Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix and Como’s Jacobo Ramon both emerging as possible recruits. The club has also completed a £51 million signing of Atalanta defender Marco Palestra as they attempt to strengthen a backline that struggled last season.
Further changes are anticipated at full-back, particularly on the left side, following Marc Cucurella’s high-profile move to Real Madrid. Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson has been identified as a potential target as the Blues aim to restore balance across their defensive line. With Chalobah seemingly set to move on, Chelsea’s summer of transition shows no sign of easing at Stamford Bridge.
