The All India LPG Distributors Federation has issued a strong ultimatum to the Union government, threatening a countrywide indefinite strike if key demands are not fulfilled within three months. These include a substantial increase in commission and an end to what they call “illegal” forced supply practices by oil companies.
Charter of Demands Finalized at National Convention
The decision was announced following the federation’s national convention held in Bhopal on Saturday. Association president B.S. Sharma said that delegates from across the country approved a resolution outlining a charter of demands. A formal letter has been sent to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Distributors Cry Foul Over Forced Supply of Non-Domestic Cylinders
One of the most urgent grievances raised involves oil marketing companies allegedly forcing distributors to accept non-domestic LPG cylinders despite no market demand. “This is against legal provisions and must be stopped immediately,” the association said, citing violations of standard demand-supply practices and increased burden on distributors.
Operational Costs Not Met by Current Commission
The association argues that the existing commission structure is unsustainable and not aligned with rising operational costs. In their letter to the Union government, they have demanded a hike in the commission to at least ₹150 per cylinder to maintain viability.
Issues With Ujjwala Scheme Distribution
The association also highlighted challenges in distributing LPG under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, adding further complexity to the already strained distribution system.
If the government does not respond within three months, the association has vowed to initiate an indefinite strike, which could disrupt LPG supply across the nation.
