Arrest and Transfer of Sonam Raghuvanshi

Patna: The Meghalaya Police have successfully transported Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main suspect in her husband Raja Raghuvanshi's murder during their honeymoon, to Patna.

Currently, Sonam is being held at the Phulwari Sharif police station in Patna, under close police observation.

Sources indicate that the Meghalaya Police intend to fly her to Guwahati from Patna Airport on Tuesday at 12:40 PM. The police convoy is scheduled to arrive at the airport by 11 AM, after which she will be taken to Guwahati and subsequently driven to Shillong.

To facilitate her transfer and questioning, Meghalaya Police have secured a five-day transit remand.

Late Monday night, a police team traveled from Ghazipur with Sonam, reaching Patna via Buxar. Authorities continuously monitored her location throughout the journey.

Reports suggest that security was heightened during the transit, with personnel from Uttar Pradesh Police, Bihar Police, and four officers from Meghalaya Police accompanying her.

Upon her arrival at the Phulwari Sharif police station, she was advised to rest before continuing her journey to Guwahati.

Sonam was apprehended in connection with the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a gorge near the Weisawdong Parking Lot in Meghalaya on June 2.

The couple had been reported missing since May 23, initially leading to a missing persons investigation that escalated into a murder case following the discovery of Raja's body.

Sonam remained elusive until she surrendered to the police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8.

According to UP Police's Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash, Sonam claimed she had been 'drugged and taken to Ghazipur.'

Her surrender marked a significant development in a case that had captured the attention of authorities across multiple states for two weeks.

Meghalaya Police allege that the murder stemmed from an extramarital affair.

Sonam is accused of conspiring with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to orchestrate her husband's murder, ultimately turning herself in due to increasing pressure from the investigation.

In addition to Sonam, Raj Singh Kushwaha has also been arrested, along with three others identified as Vishal Singh Chauhan from Indore, Aakash Rajput from Lalitpur, and Anand from Bina in Sagar district.

The investigation into this high-profile murder case is ongoing.
